Steven Chaney Obituary

Steven K. Chaney, 73, of Chillicothe passed at his home from pancreatic cancer with his friends and family by his side on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.  He was born on December 12, 1950 in Chillicothe to the late John Jack Chaney Jr., and Gladys (Mullins) Chaney.  On April 7, 1984 he married his true soulmate and best friend Pamela A. Morgan, who preceded him in death on October 8, 2019.

Surviving are his children, Melissa Sickles (Robert), Mendy Hinty (Larry), Catherine Hall (Jerry), Bill Riddle (Ronda), Tammy Howard, and Carrie Riddle (Matt Byers), all of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Mikayla Smith (Jeremy), Maeryn Hill (Jeffery Meyer), Trevor Sickles (Bryanna), Kinsley Sickles, Noah Thomas, Xavier Hampp, Matt Howard (Stacia Francis), Tyler Howard, Adam Sigler, and Abigail Sigler, great-grandchildren, Darian, Jace, Delanee, and Nina and a sister-in-law, Jo Ellen Morgan.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Hill, brothers-in-law, Jim Morgan and Steve Morgan, aunt, Nancy Coy, and uncle, Jerry Chaney.

Steve attended Chillicothe High School and retired from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources at Scioto Trails and Great Seal Parks from 1972-2004.  He was later the manager for Applegate Apartments.   He was a member of the Chillicothe Moose Lodge 1626, where he was a past Governor.  Steve also served as the State President of the Ohio Moose Association from 1996-1997, and was awarded the Pilgrim Degree of Merit.  He was also a member of the VFW Post 108.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Staff of National Church Residences Hospice for their care and compassion, especially Clarissa, Kyla, Tangie, and Andri.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2024 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Paul Remy, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday with a Moose Lodge Pilgrim Service will be held at 7:00 p.m.
