Norma Jean Markel, 87 of Laurelville, formerly of Chillicothe passed from this life on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at her residence following a brief illness. She joins the love of her life, Dick, together again in Heaven.
Jean was born July 28, 1933 in Kingston, Ohio, the youngest of 5 children born to Darl and Bessie (Wiley) Miller. She was united in marriage to Richard L. “Dick” Markel on April 24, 1953. Dick preceded her in death March 7, 2020.
Surviving is her daughter, Melody (Todd) Young, Laurelville; her grandson, William (Kassie) Young, serving our country in Italy; her granddaughter, Brandy (Scott) Young, Gilbert, AZ; her special bonus grandchildren, Nikki, Dillon and Ridge Young; her great-grandchildren, Elliott and Eastynn Young and Braden Sams; numerous nieces and nephews; a special brother-in-law, Shirley Stant, and her First Wesleyan Church food committee family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Mindy Markel in April, 1996 and her siblings, Esther Pickelsimer, Florence Andrick, Helen Stant and Dale Miller.
Jean was a retired employee of U.S. Shoe and had worked at the Old Canal Stop with Dick for many years, where she loved meeting and connecting with friends every morning. She was an active member of the First Wesleyan Church for many years and helped start the Bereavement Food Committee in the early 1980’s.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Adena Hospice, especially Jody and Kelly.
