Geoffrey Alan Haines Obituary

Dr. Geoffrey Alan Haines, aka “Abner “to his friends, age 70, formerly of Chillicothe Ohio, passed away February 8, 2022, after complications from aortic valve open-heart surgery in Winter Park, Florida. Alan was born in Dayton Ohio in 1951 and lived in Chillicothe Ohio with his parents Donald and June Haines.

  He was a 1969 graduate of Chillicothe High School and studied athletic training at the Ohio State University, earning his BA 1974. He then graduated with his Masters degree in Physical Education from Eastern New Mexico University in 1976. While teaching at Delta State University in Mississippi, he completed his Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership and Research, graduating in 2007. After receiving his PhD, he became an Associate Professor at University of Trinidad and Tobago in the Islands and taught until his retirement from teaching.

 Alan was preceded in death by his parents Don and June Haines. He is survived by his daughter Heather (Haines) Callahan and his son Christopher Haines both residing in Florida, along with his sister Debra Haines Starling. He also leaves behind a multitude of friends and prior students that will remember him as an inspiring, knowledgeable, caring mentor and professor with a passion for his teaching and students.
