William D Wiseman

William D. “Bill” Wiseman age 72 passed from this life on January 22, 2025 at his home in Chillicothe Ohio. He was born on February 17, 1953 to Dr. William E. and Olive “Livvie” E. (Sullivan) Wiseman at the White Cross Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Bill was a 1971 graduate of Union Scioto Local School. After working as a midshipman mate and as a Park Ranger when the Kings Island opened its Lion Country Safari, he attended and graduated from Shawnee State with an associate degree in Wildlife Management. He graduated from the State of Ohio Law Enforcement Academy and was hired as a State Park Officer in the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. He was awarded the ODNR Lifesaving Award in February 1984 and the Buckeye Sheriff Lifesaving Award in November 1989. He primarily served the public at Hocking Hills State Park before his retirement. Bill was a 32º Scottish Rite Master Mason.

Bill was proudest of his two sons who are law enforcement officers, William H. Wiseman (girlfriend Madison Buckler) and Isaac D. Wiseman (wife Jena). He is also survived by his precious granddaughter Avery Lane Wiseman who is 6 months old. He has three surviving sisters, Carol L. Wiseman of Washington Court House, Barbara A. (husband Jack) Mahaffey of Chillicothe, and Cheryl S. (husband Richard) Looney of Bainbridge Ohio. Bill has the following nieces and nephews: Roger (Carisa) Boler, Paul Vernier, William Mahaffey, Jan “Nikki” Mahaffey, and Christina (Jason) Friend and numerous great and great great nieces and nephews.

Bill was an accomplished outdoorsman. He could “call in” several animals. Bill recently enjoyed lunch get-togethers with his Unioto classmates and his many fishing trips with his sons and friends. He leaves behind wonderful friends, especially Lenny, Greg, Kim, his fellow officers and Masons, and the Kay Vee Lodge folks. Also mourning his passing are his 8 first Wiseman cousins Jeff, John, Joel, Diana, Debra, Michael, Tammy, and Sherry. Bill was predeceased by his parents and one nephew, Mark Vernier.

Bill’s family and friends may gather at the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at an 11:00 am until 1:00 pm for visitation, with a Masonic Service at 12:45 pm. The Reverend James Grove will officiate the funeral beginning at 1:00 pm. He will be buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in the Wiseman family plot immediately following the service.  An online memorial is available at www.fawcett-palmer.com
