Viola Louise Sprouse

Viola Louise Sprouse, 89, of Chillicothe, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Adena Regional Medical Center, where she had been a patient since Friday. She had been in failing health the past year. Viola was born on April 10, 1922, near Chillicothe, the ninth child of Charles W. and Chloe Belle (Beckwith) Bostwick, Sr. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Sprouse had lived most of her life in Chillicothe, with the exception of about 25 years, during which time she had resided in such places as Pont-a-Mousson, France, Panama City, Florida, Takikawa, Japan, and Honolulu, Hawaii, to name a few. On February 3, 1940, she was married to M. Sgt. John C. Sprouse, who preceded her in death on April 21, 1970. In addition to her parents and husband Mrs. Sprouse was preceded in death by six brothers, four sisters, three half-brothers, one half-sister, and her son-in-law, David Somerholter, in 2006. She is survived by a daughter, Margaret A. Somerholter of Tucson, AZ; a son, John David (Janey) Sprouse of Chillicothe; five grandchildren, Kevin Somerholter of Tucson, AZ, Kurt Somerholter of Austin, TX, Kimberly Moros of Little Rock, AR, Chris Sprouse of Chillicothe, and Scott Sprouse of Shingle Springs, CA; four great-grandchildren, Jonas, Connor, Corinna, and Ezra; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Rhonda Johnson of Chillicothe. Mrs. Sprouse had worked as a waitress/hostess at various restaurants, including the Valley House Restaurant and Anderson's Bar & Grill, prior to joining the staff at Heartland of Chillicothe in 1982, where she worked as a dietary aide. She retired from Heartland of Chillicothe in 1999, after nearly 17 years of service. Viola's strong work ethic will always be one of the many attributes by which she will be remembered. In keeping with Mrs. Sprouse's wishes no calling hours or funeral servoices will be observed. Private interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Chillicothe. The FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME is serving the family.
