Shirley L. Bethel

Shirley L. Bethel, 77, of Chillicothe, passed from this life on Friday morning, December 6, 2013 in Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.  She was born December 20, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Marcus C. and Gladys (Burden) Harris.  On September 19, 1953 she married her husband of 60 years, Earl O. Bethel who survives.

Also surviving are her daughters, Melinda K. Evans, Janet (Gerold) Colburn, Debra (Butch) Springer and Susan (Richard) White; sons, Edward E. Bethel, Sr., Earl Bethel, Jr. and James L. Bethel, all of Chillicothe; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Janice J. Fernandez and a brother, Charles (Barbara) Harris, all of Chillicothe.  Her parents, foster parents, Irvin and Mary Gire, sister, Barbara Hines, daughter-in-law, Joy Bethel and son-in-law, Kenny Evans preceded her in death.

Mrs. Bethel was a retired employee of Adena Medical Center.  She was a passionate reader and writer, an excellent cook and was a devoted wife and mother.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Robert Haddox officiating.  Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Wednesday.
