Salvatore Joseph Tropea, 96 of Chillicothe, formerly of Dayton, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 in Traditions of Chillicothe following an extended illness. He was born April 6, 1917 in Syracuse, New York, the son of Joseph Salvatore and Rose (Orlando) Tropea. On April 6, 1945 he married Eleonore Boritzki who preceded him in death in 1990.
Surviving is a daughter, Leanore (Jack) Sewell, Miamisburg, Ohio; sons, Richard Tropea, Greenville, Ohio, Carl Tropea, Springboro, Ohio and Gerry Tropea, Chillicothe, Ohio; 4 grandchildren and a sister, Veronica (Tony) De Rosa, Syracuse, New York. His parents and a sister preceded him in death.
Mr. Tropea was a veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Army. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as a Major in 1962. A graduate of Syracuse University, he was an engineer with the Air Force Aeronautical Systems Division at Wright Patterson AFB, retiring in 1977. He was an active amateur radio operator for many years (WA8NKP) and enjoyed electronics and stamp and coin collecting. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband and father.
Following cremation, private services and interment will be in Preble Memory Gardens, Eaton, Ohio at the discretion of the family. The FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME is serving the family.
