Ruth J. Rittinger

Ruth J. Rittinger, 88, of Chillicothe, passed from this life on Sunday, June 2, 2013 in Traditions of Chillicothe following an extended illness. She was born January 6, 1925 in Ross County, the daughter of Herman and Eleanor (Shearrow) Suman. On September 4, 1948 she married Clarence Rittinger Jr., who preceded her in death on November 18, 2008.
Surviving are her sons, William and wife, Kathy Rittinger, Chillicothe and Tom Rittinger, Dayton; a former daughter-in-law, Sharon Rittinger, Fairborn; grandchildren, Brian, Greg, Cindy and Scott; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Kaitlyn, Olivia and Colten; a sister, Virginia Topping, Columbus and a brother-in-law, Robert Rittinger, Chillicothe. Her parents and a sister, Dorothy Jean Rearley preceded her in death.
Mrs. Rittinger was a 1942 graduate of Unioto High School and a 1948 graduate of the Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati. She was a Registered Nurse for 39, retiring in 1987. While working Labor and Delivery at Chillicothe Hospital and Medical Center Hospital she assisted in the births of 4400 babies.
She was a member of the Orchard Hill United Church of Christ, Nurse’s Guild 4, Ross County Genealogical Society, Ross County Historical Society and the Ross County Bird Club. She enjoyed attended the reunions of her Nursing School class and did so for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 7, 2013 in the Orchard Hill United Church of Christ with Elaine Mulford and Rev. Terry Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Orchard Hill church from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday. The FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME is serving the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Orchard Hill United Church of Christ or the Chris Rearley Scholarship Fund, payable to the ASU Foundation, in care of Jennifer K.
