Ruth Ellen Knisley

March 27, 1927 — April 28, 2012

On Saturday evening, April 28, 2012 , we lost a precious and spirited lady and Heaven gained another angel. Ruth Ellen Knisley, 85, of Kingston passed into the hands of our Lord surrounded by her family at Heartland of Chillicothe. Ruth was born March 27, 1927 in Kingston to Lester and Hazel (Coey) Carper. In 1947 she married Harold L. Knisley who preceded her in death in 1992.

From this union came daughters, Sherry and her husband Dennis Zeigler, Kingston and Sue Anne Knisley and her long-time companion, Bruce Wilkinson, Chillicothe . In addition to her daughters, Ruth is survived by grandchildren, Becky (Chris) Minor and David Zeigler. In 2008 she was blessed with a great-grandchild, Evan Alan Minor. By her bedside at this difficult time were her niece, Nancy King and nephew, Rodney (Pam) King. Also surviving are nieces, Peggy (Ron) Kerg, Teresa and Lisa Carper; nephews, Bob and Rick Knisley and many other relatives of both the Carper and Knisley families.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Jessie and Foster Knisley, her sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Ted King; brother-in-law, Chester and wife, Eileen Knisley; sister-in-law, Evelyn and husband, Bob Jackson and her brother, Charles Carper.

Ruth was known throughout Kingston for her beautiful flowers and the loving care that she gave to them. She was also known for her feistiness and for her sense of humor, which won many friends over the years. In addition to gardening, Ruth also enjoyed bowling and was at one time one of the better bowlers in Chillicothe . Although bowling was the only sport she participated in, she was an avid sports fan. For several years she attended many Zane Trace basketball games, and she loved to watch Duke play.

Although she preferred to stay home and raise her girls, she did work at the U.S. Shoe Corp. in order to help pay for their college educations. Because she enjoyed dancing so much, she and her husband became members of the Eagles Aerie 600. She was also a member of the E Pluribus Unum club. She made many friends through these organizations and through her church, the Community Methodist Church in Hallsville.

Although her stay at Heartland of Chillicothe was brief, she met a special lady, her room-mate, Helen Detillion, who watched over her when no one else could be there. Helen quickly became part of the family and will always remain dear to us.

Our family would also like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Heartland of Chillicothe for the wonderful and compassionate care she received.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, May 3, 2012 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. David Titler officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery , Kingston . The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, the Community Methodist Church or the Zane Trace Athletic Boosters.
