Ronald Forrest Springer, 75, of Chillicothe, left this Earth for his eternal reward, on November,   4, 2014, at the age of 75, following a valiant battle against aggressive brain cancer. He fought the good fight and the battle was won as he stepped from the confines of his body on Earth to his eternal home in heaven, shepherded by the angels who came to get him.  He was surrounded by his family singing his favorite hymn “The Old Rugged Cross” as he went home to heaven.  There he was reunited with his loved ones that have gone on before and with his Savior, Jesus Christ.  He believed very much that his treasures were to be laid up for him in heaven and he looked to that day when he would meet his Jesus face to face.
He was born in Chillicothe in 1939, the eldest son of Lorene Leach Leatherwood and Forrest Albert Springer.  In 1966 he married the former Linda Ruth Wolfe, who survives.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Lorene Milam; his father, Forrest Springer; his son, Michael Springer; grandparents, James Garfield Springer and Margerite (Rumer) Springer; grandparents Sanford Leatherwood and Artie Bell (Leach) Leatherwood; as well as scores of aunts, uncles, cousins and other loved ones.
Ron was a part of a huge family who survives him.  These include his children Veronica (Scott) Bonar, Angela (Kevin) Compston, Ronda “Genia” Dougherty, brother David (Beth) Milam.  He is also survived by grandchildren Spencer Springer, Patricia Dougherty, Brandon Bonar, David Bonar, Elizabeth Compston and Andrew Compston.  He also had a very close relationship with his former son-in-law Bill Dougherty.   He leaves behind many in-laws (including John C. "Buck" Wolfe and Clarence (Juanita) Wolfe, cousins, aunts, uncles and nephews (Brian and John Wolfe; Sarah Milam and Philip Milam) as well as very close friends that are too numerous to mention.  He touched the lives of so many and they know who they are.
As a young man, Ron played basketball on the church league team at First United Methodist Church, where his family attended for generations.  He also ran track for Chillicothe High School, where he garnered the nickname “Ronald Bean Blossom Springer”.  He was drafted into the U.S. Army serving from 1962-1964 serving at Fort Rucker, Alabama and Fort Gordon, GA.
He loved the printing business, working for the Dayton Daily News prior to working at DuPont of Circleville, where he retired from in 1999.  Dad made so many friends working in all facets of the plant.  During his retirement years he chose to work around his other love, golfing, and was a groundskeeper for the Running Fox Golf Course which was something he really enjoyed.  He also enjoyed going to coffee breaks with his friends at McDonalds and to breakfast with his wife every Saturday morning at Bob Evans.  It was something they looked forward to.  Ron also took great pride in his children and grandchildren.  He was an avid supporter of the Chillicothe High School sports program and could be found most Friday nights in the stands with his cousin, Jon Leatherwood, rooting the Cavaliers on.
Ron was a member of First United Methodist Church, Chillicothe, and served on committees and wherever he was asked.  He ran soundboard for services and helped with the Saturday Morning Prayer Breakfast to mention just a few.   He could always be found at the church working to help others, which he learned from his mother, Lorene, who did the same.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 8, 2014 in the First United Methodist Church with Pastor J.C. Collins officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery with military honors.  A dinner for family and friends will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends at the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
