Roger D. Strausbaugh

Roger Dennis Strausbaugh, 88, of Chillicothe, passed from this life on Saturday July 18, 2026 at his residence. He was born on September 17, 1937 in Chillicothe, the son of Howard Kenneth and Emma Lou (Dennis) Strausbaugh. On September 23, 1962 he married Carol June Overly, who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Patrick D. (Jannell) Strausbaugh, Aurora, CO, and Susan K. (Joel) Jerva, Charlotte, NC, grandchildren, Emily J. (Justin) Kopacz, and Alex B. Strausbaugh, great-grandchildren, Matthew Kopacz and Olivia Kopacz, all of Aurora, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Roger was a graduate of Chillicothe High School and attended The Ohio State University, where he proudly marched as a member of The Ohio State University Marching Band. He also honorably served in the Ohio National Guard.

Roger dedicated much of his professional life to serving others. He served as CEO of Atomic Credit Union before retiring. Following his retirement, he continued his commitment to the community by working at Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home and Wissler, Myers, & Kallies Family Dentistry, where he remained until his retirement in 2018 at the age of 80.

A faithful and devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church since the age of 10, Roger actively participated in the church choir, handbell choir, and Men's Brotherhood. His dedication to his faith was matched by his commitment to the Chillicothe community. He was an active member of the Chillicothe Jaycees, serving as president and being honored as Jaycee of the Year in 1960. He was also a member of the Sunset Club and served on the boards of the Salvation Army, the YMCA, and the Pike County Community Action Committee.

Roger enjoyed sharing his love of local history as a tour guide at the Chillicothe Railroad Museum Caboose. He remained connected to his Buckeye roots as a member of The Ohio State University Alumni Marching Band and the Seal of Ohio Band. He also generously volunteered as a driver, providing transportation for cancer patients to and from their treatments.

In his leisure time, Roger found joy in golfing, fishing, woodworking, bicycling, and collecting and operating model trains. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family, church, and community will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday July 22, 2026 at Trinity UMC with Pastor Sherri Blackwell, officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday July 21, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. An online memorial is available at www.fawcett-palmer.com.
