Robert Wayne Mcwhorter

Robert "Wayne" McWhorter, 79, of Chillicothe, passed from this life Sunday afternoon, Jan. 11, 2009 in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2008 in the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Ault officiating. Burial will follow in Springbank Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday. He was born Sept. 15, 1929 in Ross County, the son of Harold O. and Ersa A. (Clipner) McWhorter. On July 8, 1955 he married Anna Ertel who survives. Also surviving are his children, Larry and wife, Monica McWhorter of Leawood, KS, John and wife, Linda McWhorter, Tucson, AZ, David and wife Jamie McWhorter, Mary Ann McWhorter and Judy McWhorter, all of Chillicothe, grandchildren, Daniel and Benjamin McWhorter, John "J.B." McWhorter, Chelsea McWhorter and Seth and Kayla Knisley. Also recognized as grandchildren are Jenny and Nick Burkholder. In addition, he is survived by sisters, Irene Graves and Ruthie Atwood and brothers Wallace and Otis McWhorter, all of Chillicothe. His parents preceded him in death. "Wayne" served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was an employee of the Chillicothe Correctional Institute, retiring in 1991. Following retirement, he spent his time enjoying the country life, gardening and spending time with his family and friends.
