Richard L. Deacon

August 26, 1951 — October 13, 2024

Our beloved Richard L. Deacon, 73, of Waverly passed into his loving Father’s arms on Sunday October 13, 2024 in the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.  Dick was born on August 26, 1951 at 4:16 a.m. in Scioto County, the son of Richard Earl and Hilda Ruth (Amlin) Deacon.  On January 24, 1998, Dick married Mary Deacon, who survives.

Also surviving is his son Christopher Deacon, from his previous marriage to Christy Branum, and Chris’s children, Landon, whom his grandparents are raising, and Brooklyn and her sister Brelyn, Mary’s sons Josiah and wife Krystal, and their 2 sons, Drexel and Gabriel, and Josh and his son Chandler, Dick’s sister, Donna Rider of Waverly; his aunts Ruth Deacon, Geneva Deacon, Marlene Naumann, Lorena Steltzman, and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Hailey Deacon.

Dick was a United States Air Force Veteran, he retired as Senior Master Sergeant after 26 years of service.  During Vietnam, he was stationed at Aviano Air Base in Italy for 2 years.  For many years he worked for his dear friend Dave Boyer, and for the last 6 years worked for the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home.

Dick was 1969 graduate of the Pike County Joint Vocational School, where he won the National Machine Trade Contest. He was known for his love of taking pictures and sending them to friends, and always enjoyed a good meal.  He liked going to Wright Patterson Air Force Base PX, so he could save a few bucks, and also enjoyed going to air shows.  Most of all the loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.  He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, humor, and kind heart. He was a great man, and will be missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday October 26, 2024 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Dale Reed, officiating.  Burial will follow in Evergreen Union Cemetery on Bridge St., Waverly with military honors conducted by the Wright Patterson Air Force Base Honor Guard, the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard, and the American Legion Post 142, Waverly.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday.  An online memorial is available at www.fawcett-palmer.com.
