Phyllis I. Hougland, 78, of Chillicothe, passed from this life early Sunday morning, Nov. 11, 2012 in Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. She was born Jan. 25, 1934 in Chillicothe, the daughter of Leonard W. and Hazel M. (Strausbaugh) Barnhart. On Sept. 20, 1951 she married Paul M. Hougland who survives.
Also surviving are daughters, Pam and husband, Tom Havens, Chillicothe, Kristy and husband, Don Stevens, Wellston and Jodi and husband, Patrick Riley, Chillicothe; sons, Paul Jeffery and wife, Debra Hougland and Philip “Joe” Hougland, all of Chillicothe; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Perry, Chillicothe; a half brother, Bill Herbst, WI; brothers-in-law, Richard “Bud” Hougland, Melvin (Marcella) Hougland, James “Bob” (Betty) Hougland and Danny (Pat) Hougland; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a brother.
Mrs. Hougland was a member of the Ross County Senior Center. She was an avid bowler for many years. A wonderful cook, she was known for her noodles and sweet tea. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Bruce Hines and Rev. James Hougland officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday.
