Paul M. “Hougie” Hougland, 81, of Chillicothe, passed from his life at 1:02 p.m., Sunday Feb. 9, 2014, following a long and grueling battle with spinal cancer, along with the added grief of losing the love of his life. Paul was born on Dec. 31, 1932, in Chillicothe, to the late Chester V. and Audrey M. (Kisor) Hougland. Our strong, brave, and amazing father ended his battle on Earth and began his walk with God. He is now reunited with his soul mate and loving wife Phyllis I. (Barnhart) Hougland, who preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 2012.
Surviving are his loving and dedicated children; Pamela Jane (Tom) Havens, of Chillicothe, Paula Kristy (Don) Stevens, Wellston, Jodi Dawn Riley, of Chillicothe, Paul Jeffrey (Debra) Hougland, and Philip Joseph Hougland, both of Chillicothe, 10 grandchildren; Paul “Billy” Hawk, Adam Stevens, Morgan Stevens, Heather Hougland, Ashley Hougland, Dustin Hougland, Nathaniel Riley, Shea Riley, Jennifer Hougland, and Janelle Hougland, 10 great-grandchildren; Kennedi Stevens, Zachary Stevens, Harper Stevens, Clayton Stevens, Brennan Hougland, Korbyn Simpson, Ava Jones, Hannah Kraner, Wesley Riley, and Riyell Riley, brothers; Richard Hougland, James R. Hougland, and Danny Hougland, all of Chillicothe. He was preceded in death by a sister; Mary Hughes, and a brother; Melvin E. Hougland.
Mr. Hougland worked as a pipe fitter for the Mead Corporation for 45 years. He was an avid golfer and bowler, and was a member of the Mead Retirees and the Ross County Senior Center, and enjoyed going to the Atomic Speedway.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Don Sparks and Rev. James Hougland officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
