Opal P. Smith, 86, of Chillicothe, passed from this life on Wednesday, Apr. 13, 2011, in the Chillicothe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following a brief illness. She was born Dec. 14, 1924 in Chillicothe, to the late Pearl F. and Mildred (Carruthers) Park. On Mar. 11, 1944, she married Harry W. Smith, who survives and they shared 67 years together. Also surviving are a daughter; Peggy L. (Howard) DeLong, Jonesboro, TN, a son; Jerald A. (Louise) Smith, Clarksburg, grandchildren; Jeff (Nicole) Smith, Donnie (Kelly) Smith, Gary (Andrea) Smith, Cheryl (Doug) Lowe, and Sean (Linda) DeLong, great-grandchildren, J.C., Leslie, Josh, Faith, Doug Jr., Brandon, Ethan, Connor, and Lauren, great-great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Carson, and Mady, a sister, Joan (Gary) Foll, Kissimmee, FL, a brother, Rev. Neil (Bea) Park, Waverly, sister-in-law, Scherrie Farr, Toledo, brothers-in-law, Robert (Buddy) Stewart, Chillicothe, and Glenn (Judy) Smith, Dayton, special niece, Becky (Glenn) Steinbrook, Chillicothe, other nieces and nephews and her canine companion Dolly. She is preceded in death by a sister, Gail Stewart, a brother, Eldon Park, and a sister-in-law, Katie Park. Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, where she had been a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed flower gardening and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 16, 2011 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Jason Everidge officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
