Michael Thomas Slagle, 61, of North Fort Myers, Florida passed away unexpectedly in his home on Saturday, September 6, 2014 of natural causes. He was born June 10, 1953 in Chillicothe, Ohio to Given (Gib) Woodrow Slagle and Dolores Lucile (Jones) Slagle. He was their third child. Michael attended St. Peter’s Elementary School and Bishop Flaget High School.
Michael spent many years as a registered Professional Land Surveyor. After leaving his job with the City of Chillicothe, Michael started his own business, Slagle Surveying, that he operated until 2006 when he relocated to south Florida. Upon relocating, he began a handyman business that served the North Fort Myers area. He never hesitated to help a neighbor in need with his handyman skills.
Michael enjoyed many things in life, including the Cleveland Browns, Ohio State University Buckeyes, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, spending time with family and friends, and his beloved cats, Tiki and Angel.
Michael is survived by his children: daughter, Heather (Slagle) Olah and son-in-law, Gregory Olah of Pooler, Georgia; daughter, Amanda (Slagle) Slone and son-in-law, Jeremy Slone of Gaborone, Botswana, Africa; and daughter, Vanessa (Slagle) Garofalo and son-in-law, Christopher Garofalo of Lakeland, Florida. His siblings also survive him: Diane (Slagle) Mead and brother-in-law, Loren Mead; as well as his brother, John Slagle and sister-in-law, Carol (Carmean) Slagle. Michael has one granddaughter, Claudia Slone, of Gaborone, Botswana. His children’s mother is Debora Ross-Long of Auburndale, Florida. Michael is preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, September 18, 2014 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. William Hahn, Celebrant. Private burial will follow at a later date.
