Melvin E. Hougland, 78, of Chillicothe passed from this life Wednesday Mar. 6, 2013, in Westmoreland Place Nursing Home following and extended illness. He was born Jan. 17, 1935 in Chillicothe to the late Chester V. and Audrey M. Kisor Hougland. He married Frances Fink who preceded him in death on Apr. 15, 1987. On Oct. 17, 2007 he married Marcella Butterbaugh who survives.
Surviving are daughters; Kitty (Bob) Park, Chillicothe, Cindy Hougland, Chillicothe, and Melissa (Stephen) Shepherd, Indianapolis, IN, step daughters; Lisa (Bill) Davis and Melissa (Jim) Riehle, and a step son; Frank Butterbaugh, all of Chillicothe, grandchildren; Bobbie (Rusty) Penwell, Brandon (Aprille) Park, Cody Moore, Caleb Shepherd, and Rebecca Shepherd, 15 step grandchildren, and 9 step great grandchildren, brothers; Richard Hougland, Paul Hougland, James R. Hougland, and Danny Hougland. He was preceded in death by a sister; Mary Hughes, sisters in law; Gloria Hougland and Phyllis Hougland, and a grandson in law; Jamie Wellington.
Mr. Hougland was a tow truck driver for Jennings and truck driver for Central Auto Parts. He was an auctioneer assistant and loved auctions.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday Mar. 9, 2013 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Aaron Hines and Jim Hougland officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to charity of choice.
