Mary Ann Jarvis, 90, passed peacefully on January 2, 2024 at Our Lady of the Valley in Roanoke, Virginia. Mary Ann was born December 27, 1933 in Columbus, Ohio to Paul and Vivian Winters. She graduated from Grandview Heights High School in Columbus, Ohio before attending The Ohio State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree in 1956. Mary Ann met her future husband, William (Bill) Jarvis, while attending college and they were married on January 7, 1956 at the First Community church in Columbus, Ohio.
Mary Ann and Bill had three children, Steven (Steve) Paul, Mary (Kathy) Kathleen and Scott William, that they raised in Chillicothe, Ohio. She was a homemaker and helped lead numerous school-related and after school activities such as a Den Mother in Cub Scouts. Her children remember fondly the numerous vacations taken to Florida, the Carolina Coast, Amish Country in Ohio, Disney cruise trip and the “out West” adventure.
Mary Ann had a wonderful soprano singing voice and shared her talents with the choirs of the First Presbyterian church and Tyler Memorial United Methodist church over the years. She was also a Bell ringer and Sunday school member at both churches and was active in the Miriam Ruth Circle at Tyler Memorial. She continued her love of learning and sharing her faith during numerous Bible studies after moving to Roanoke. Her passion for performing was showcased by her long-term devotion to the Renaissance Singers in Chillicothe. Mary Ann was one of the founding members and discovered her comedic talents late in life as a result of some of these performances.
Mary Ann celebrated her 90th birthday on December 27, 2023 surrounded by all three children, their spouses and many of her loved ones. Although in failing health, she gratefully acknowledged our collective gathering in her honor. We all had a chance to celebrate her special day and share our love with her. She passed a few days later.
Mary Ann will be greatly missed by her loving family. She is survived by her daughter Kathy (Terry) Brooks; sons Steve (Coreen) and Scott (Marisa); grandchildren Jessica (Ben) Jarvis-DeKraker, Matthew (Crystal) Brooks, Robert (Emily) Jarvis, and Reid Jarvis; great-grandchildren Kaitlynn (Tyler) Mumford, Ethan Ross, Alexis and Cole Brooks.
