Mary Ellen Smith, 81, of Chillicothe, passed from this life early Thursday, Mar. 11, 2010 in Heartland of Chillicothe following an extended illness. She was born Mar. 17, 1928 in Chillicothe, the daughter of Ross and Elsie (Tennant) Shaffer. On Sept. 27, 1948 she married William Louis Smith who preceded her in death Mar. 31, 1989. Surviving is her daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and Donald R. Shalosky, Chillicothe, her son and daughter-in-law, David W. and Teresa Smith, Columbus, her grandchildren, Robert Trevor Shalosky, Braden T. Shalosky, Katrina Lynn Smith and Krista Marie Smith, 6 great grandchildren and her brother and sister-in-law, Ivan and Marian Shaffer, Frankfort. Her parents, a son, Robert Stuart Smith, a grandson, Corwin Smith, a sister and a sister-in-law, Emma Peecher preceded her in death. Mrs. Smith had been a member of the Salem Community Church and was an active volunteer of the Stop Cancer Shop, having served as manager. She was a member of the Jolly 12 Club and was an avid reader. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, Mar. 15, 2010 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Brent Rolsten officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday.
