Mary Elizabeth Cairns Adams

Mary Adams, age 84 departed this world at 3:50 pm Sunday, December 15, 2013.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Fred Adams, her mother, Gladys Edgington, brother, Charles Cairns, sisters-in-law, cousins and dear friends.
Mary left two daughters, Connie (Larry) Gullette and Vickie Streicher; grandsons, Jamie (Kim) Dennewitz and Travis (Gwen) Grubb and great-grandchildren, Evan and Sarah Dennewitz and Ashlyn, Lincoln and Laramie Grubb.
Mary attended Huntington Chapel and Beulah Chapel CCCU while she was able to get around.
Mary was a very hard worker and she loved to work.  She enjoyed taking care of her yard and always wanted to be busy.  She drove a school bus for Huntington Schools for several years and her “riders” really liked her.  She enjoyed traveling and got to see a lot of beautiful country.  She really liked Myrtle Beach.
She was very faithful to visit the nursing homes and was sorry when she was no longer able to go.  She would take treats to those she visited and she did crochet, and would share her projects with the people there.
Mary had a long life and as with people who are older, she lost a lot of people she cared about to death.  She missed them all very much.
Mary was active until she was 84 and then things changed.  It was very sad to see such an independent woman become dependent.  We never know what life has in store for us and she dealt with it the best she could.
She made things special for us and for Jamie and Travis.  She loved her grandsons and enjoyed taking them on trips.  She was always ready to help.  She had a lot of fun with them.
She had lots of help through the years from Rick Daniel.  He helped Mom and Dad for some 30 years and she considered him as her son.  Earl Bethel was so faithful to take care of her mail and trash and whatever else she wanted.  Connie and Vickie are very thankful for their kindness and help.
Mary was very independent and as she said, “bullheaded”.  But, she did her best and that is all anyone can do.  We remember how she loved chocolate, fried chicken, cheeseburgers and bologna sandwiches with Miracle Whip and onions, and how we always knew it was Friday by the pot of chili simmering on the stove.  She will be missed.
We, her daughters, are complying with her wishes.  There will be no calling hours and burial will be at our discretion.  There will be a Memorial Service at 7:00 pm on Friday, December 27, 2013 at Huntington Chapel.  If you feel you want to do something in memory of her, please send donations to Huntington Chapel, in care of Norma Kellough.
Connie and Vickie believe Mom would tell you, as she has often told us, “get out and go while you can”.
