Margaret Harriet (Tope) Gallaugher

Margaret Harriet Gallaugher, 99, of Hopeton Village, Chillicothe, died 10:40 am, Friday, January 1, 2016, at her residence after a massive stroke.
She was born May 10,1916, in Oak Hill, the daughter of the late Albert Tope and the late Nellie Dunn Tope. December 16, 1951, she married Walter T. Gallaugher, who preceded her in death September 22, 1988.
Surviving are a son Walter I. (Louise) Gallaugher, Damascus, MD; a daughter Margaret (Dirk) Swinehart, Chillicothe; a step-daughter Joan (Joe) Hutchison, Bloomington, MN; a grandson Mathieu (Alicé) Gallaugher, great-grandchildren Michael and Isabel; a step-granddaughter Cara Swinehart, step-grandchildren Braylon, Bailey, and Ramon; a step-grandson Alvin (LouAnn) Hutchison, step-great grandchildren Lauren and Tony; and a step-granddaughter Michelle Hutchison. She is also survived by many nieces, including Ruth Ann (Consolver) Sellati, Norma (Tope) Carter, Brenda Kay (Tope) Burgess , Alberta (Tope) Riggs and Rita Tope; and her best friend and "extended" family Joyce and Eldon Congrove. Margaret was preceded in death by a step-daughter Jan Heiss, a sister Helen Consolver, and 4 brothers LaRue, Burgess, Mitchell and Willis.
Mrs. Gallaugher retired in 1978 as the owner/operator of Walt’s Laundromat. She also had worked at US Shoe, and the Fireworks Corporation during WWII. She was a 1934 graduate of Oak Hill High School, and grew up attending the First United Methodist Church.
The family would like to thank the staff of Franklin Clinic and the nurses and caregivers at Hopeton Village for their wonderful care to Mrs. Gallaugher.
Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM, Wednesday January 6, 2016 in the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Smith officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 3 PM Wednesday.
