Lucy Marie (Reed) Smith, 94, of Chillicothe, formerly of Ray, passed from this life early Monday morning, Nov. 30, 2009 in Adena Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born Oct. 12, 1915 in Vinton County, the daughter of Moses H. and Elizabeth B. (Robinette) Reed. On Feb. 15, 1936 she married Wilbert E. "Gene" Smith who preceded her in death Dec. 22, 2002. Surviving is her daughter, Helen McClure, Chillicothe, a son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Shirley Smith, Ray, grandchildren, Dennis (Kimberly) Smith, Kim Smith, Michelle (Eric) Perdue and Ryan (Kristen) McClure, 6 great grandchildren, a great-great grandchild, a sister-in-law, Geneva Smith, Londonderry, a brother and sister-in-law, Owen and Ruth Smith, MI and a host of nieces and nephews. Her parents, 12 siblings, 2 great grandsons, a son-in-law, Robert L. McClure and a daughter-in-law, Joyce E. Smith preceded her in death. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Fairview Community Church and was a long-time volunteer for Adena Regional Medical Center, Hospice of Adena and the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 in the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home with Revs. David Titler and Bill Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Londonderry Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Community Church or Hospice of Adena Health System.
