Leland T. Rayer

Leland T. Rayer, 87, of Chillicothe, passed from this life, 10:15 am, Saturday, August 30, 2008 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born November 10, 1920 in Van Wert, OH the son of the late William A. and the late Leona E. Landis Rayer. On January 20, 1946 he married Janice Rose Runyon who preceded him in death May 24, 1962, On June 8, 1963 he married Velma Jean Driggs who survives. Also surviving are four children, Larry (Sytha) Rayer, Chillicothe, Kathleen (Bob) Smith, Circleville, Richard (Jackie) Rayer, Hilliard, and Mary A. Hurles, Chillicothe; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, 4 of whom they raised; and one brother Milford D. Rayer, Van Wert, OH. Besides his parents and first wife, he is preceded in death by one brother, Oren Rayer, and one great granddaughter, Grace Hawkins. Mr. Rayer was the Chief of Building 210 of the Chillicothe VA Medical Center, and was a Physical Therapist, retiring from the VA November 11, 1975. He then coordinated Physical Therapy at Logan Elm Healthcare and Berger Hospital until 1978. Mr. Rayer was a veteran of the US Navy serving during WW II. He was a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Boy Scouts Troop #6 Scoutmaster, Life Member of American Legion Post 757, Ross County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Scioto Valley Baptist Association, and a member of Chillicothe Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held, 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 3, 2008 in the Fawcett Oliver Glass & Palmer Funeral Home with Rev. John Burris officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens where military graveside rites will be provided by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Friend may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chillicothe Baptist Church Bus Fund, or Hospice of Adena Health System.
