Joy L. (Pence) Laughlin

Joy L. (Pence) Laughlin passed away June 15, 2023 at 8:00 p.m. with her mom and sister by her side.  She was born on August 4, 1958 in Ross County to Herbert Lorren and Shirley (Prickett) Pence.

Joy is survived by her mother Shirley Pence, sister Lorna McCray, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, lifelong friend, Peggy Bledsoe and special friends Patty Leach and Linda Maurer.

In 1980, Joy married the love of her life Donald Laughlin, who preceded her in death in 2019.  She was also preceded in death by her dad Herbert Lorren Pence, brother-in-law Dale McCray, uncle Lewis Pence, grandparents, Clarence and Viola Prickett and Rachel and George Pence, and several other family members.

Joy graduated from Zane Trace High School, The Ohio State University, Devry University, and Keller Graduate School, earning her Masters of Information Service Management. She also volunteered her time to teach CPR and health safety classes, and administered the webize for the Red Cross.

Joy worked at Scioto Paint Valley Mental Center, Waverly, The Chillicothe Swim and Racquet Club and the Chillicothe Veterans Medical Center, where she retired as an IT Specialist in 2015.

Joy was known for her love of Ohio State and Disney.  She and Don went every year to Disney World and collected Disney and OSU memorabilia.  She loved crocheting and donated several hats and afghans to the Adena Cancer Center.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday June, 20, 2023 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Willard McCray officiating.  Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Tuesday.
