John Given Slagle

May 1, 1947 — September 27, 2020

John Given Slagle, 73 of Chillicothe passed from this life on Sunday morning, September 27, 2020 in Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.  He was born May 1, 1947 in Ross County, the son of Given “Gib” Woodrow and Dolores Lucille (Jones) Slagle.  On January 2, 1976 he married Carol Sue Carmean who survives and together they shared 44 years together.

Also surviving are daughters, Carrie (Jammie) Wilhelm and Jessica Powers, all of Chillicothe; a son, Jason (Cindy) Slagle, Chillicothe; grandchildren, Cameron John, Kiah, Hope, Amanda, Amber, Jansen, Emma and Alex; a great-granddaughter, Aurora; a sister, Diane Mead, Chillicothe; special friends, Roger Palmer, Terry Weaver and John Radcliffe and a host of nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Michael Slagle and a brother-in-law, Loren Mead.

John was a U.S. Navy veteran.  He worked in the Engineering Department of Kenworth for more than 30 years, retiring in 2007.  He was a master gardener and woodworker, an avid golfer who was proud of his hole-in-one and was a noted outdoor chef and grill master.  He was a devoted naturalist who enjoyed sharing nature with his family.  He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 2, 2020 in Saint Margaret’s Cemetery with his son-in-law, Pastor Jammie Wilhelm officiating.  Calling hours will not be observed.  In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions to a charity of choice.
