Joanna J. Haskins

Joanna J. Haskins, 82, of Chillicothe, passed from this life on Friday, Aug. 5, 2011 in the OSU Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born June 24, 1929 in Chillicothe, the daughter of Leon E., Sr. and Eleanor (Feikert) Winget. She was married to Virgil L. Haskins who preceded her in death Nov. 3, 1986. Surviving is her daughter, Cherie L. Haskins and her son, Bradford S. Haskins, both of Chillicothe; sisters, Bonnie Maret-Bennett, Greenfield, IN and Kathryn Winget, Hudson, OH; a brother, Leon E. Winget, Jr., Columbus and several nieces and nephews. Her parents and a sister, Barbara Winget preceded her in death. Mrs. Haskins was a graduate of The Ohio State University, receiving her Master's degree. She was a teacher and guidance counseler for Southeastern Schools, Chillicothe High School and Unioto Schools, and had been a coach for girl's track and field, volleyball and cheerleading. Following her retirement she served as a substitute teacher for many years. She operated her family's stock and grain farm for more than 30 years and was a member of the D.A.R. and the Ohio Education Association. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011 in Springbank Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME on Monday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
