Joann Hoffman Patton, 79, Chillicothe's Peanut Butter Fudge Lady, peacefully passed from this life with her family and friends by her side on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at her home after a long and courageous fight against pancreatic cancer. Joann was born January 19, 1930 in Ross County, the daughter of the late Ralph and Norma (Cleek) Hoffman. On June 15, 1952 she married James Mercer Patton of Hillsboro, Ohio. Jim preceded her in death on March 22 of this year. Surviving is her son, Thomas Edward Patton, Chillicothe, a granddaughter, Courtney Patton Keeler (Ian), Indianapolis, IN, a grandson, Robert Dennison Patton, West Chester, OH, 2 step-grandchildren, Sara and Eric Moore, a step-great grandson, Cohen, West Chester, OH, a sister-in-law, Kay Patton Cooksey (Jim), Orlando, FL, twin brothers-in-law, John L. Patton (Dr. Mary Lou), Media, PA and Jerry L. Patton (Mary), Brecksville, OH, a sister-in-law, Carolyn Hoffman, Ft. Wayne, IN and many nieces and nephews. Joann was preceded in death by her son, James Robert Patton on August 28, 2006, a sister-in-law, Rosemary Patton Roush, and brothers Ralph Jr., Robert and Gene Hoffman. Joann was a graduate of Chillicothe High School and St. Joseph School of Nursing (1951). She retired from nursing from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Chillicothe. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Ross County Nurses Association, United Commercial Travelers and the Ross County Senior Citizens. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, October 26, 2009 in the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home with Rev. Tad Grover officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
