Janet Louise (Johnson) Elder, departed from this life January 27th 2026 and entered eternal love into the awaiting arms of her husband, family, and friends. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was born on October 20, 1942. Janet’s life was a remarkable journey filled with love, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to her family.
Janet was the cherished daughter of Helen (Butcher) Davis and Herschel Johnson, of Chillicothe, Ohio where she spent her entire life. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl Dave Elder, to whom she was married for 53 wonderful years. They married on September 10, 1959. Janet’s heart ached for Carl, who passed away in 2012, but their love story lives on in the hearts of all who knew them.
Growing up in a large family, Janet was the proud sister to brothers preceded in death- Elmer and Arlie Johnson, and sisters Patricia, Shirley, Kay, and Donna. Janet’s family meant the world to her, and she often spoke fondly of the joyous memories they created together. She was also preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Hitchens. Janet is survived by her devoted and beloved daughters, Helen Mae (Jack) Woods, and, Tammy Lynn Elder, brothers, Earl Johnson, and David Johnson—all of Chillicothe. Granddaughters, Crystal (Branson) Hitchens and Autumn Woods. Great-granddaughters, Adyson and Ashlyn Tyler, Aariya Hitchens, and twins Oliver and Melody McKean. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, including her niece, Kathy Powell, who brought her much joy.
Throughout her life, Janet dedicated herself to caring for others. She worked as an administrator for her mother’s nursing facilities at the Gospel Light Nursing Home in Kingston and the Good Samaritan in Chillicothe, where she was known for her gentle heart and selfless sacrifices. Her dedication to her vocation mirrored her personal life, where she consistently put the needs of her family and friends before her own. Janet had a deep love for bluegrass and country music, but was often serenaded by the sweet sounds of Alan Jackson. She also adored taking car rides with Dave and Tammy, particularly to their property in West Virginia.
Janet’s legacy is that of an extraordinary woman whose selflessness and devotion to her family will never be forgotten. Her kind spirit touched the hearts of many, and her love will continue to resonate in the lives of her family and friends. She is now the guardian angel of her daughter Tammy Lynn. Although she has departed from this life, her spirit will live on in the cherished memories she created and the lives she touched.
A private funeral service for family and friends will be held to honor her memory. She will be profoundly missed but remembered with love and fondness by all who knew her. Until we meet again
Services will be held at God's Pentecostal House of Prayer Londonderry, Ohio this Sunday February 1st 2026 at 2pm.
