James Donald Alcorn, 97, of Chillicothe, passed peacefully in his sleep on Sunday March 8, 2026. Don was born on October 30, 1928 in Irving, KY (Estill County), later moving to a farm outside of Lexington, IN. He was the son of Forest and Hallie Mae (Cox) Alcorn, and in October 1953 he married Norma Jean Payne, who preceded him in death on November 18, 2016.

Surviving are his children, Loretta (Tom) Kleinline, Greg (Jane Ann) Alcorn, and Keith (Ana Rosa) Alcorn, grandchildren, Cora (Chris), Lenora, Jenny, Laura, Daniel, and Andrea, a great-grandson, Finian James, a sister, Elsie Brading, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brother, Warnell Alcorn.

Don was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Following his service in the Navy, he became a Licensed Stationary Engineer. He later came to Circleville to open DuPont, where worked until his retirement. Don was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan, having worked at their spring training camp in Plant City, FL for many years, and was a volunteer fire fighter for Tarlton and Union Townships. Upon retirement, he and Jean owned and operated the upholstery business, Just Sew Sew. Throughout the years, he was a member of both Tyler and Trinity United Methodist Churches. His loss is deeply felt by family and friends.

A visitation will be held for family and friends on Friday March 13, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME.   A visitation in Indiana will be held on Monday March 16, 2026 from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. with a funeral service held at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Michael Payne, officiating in the Buchanan Funeral Home, Austin IN. Burial will follow in Spurgeon Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Honor Flight, www.honorflightcmh.org.  An online memorial guestbook is available at www.fawcett-palmer.com.
