Gerald Eugene Smith, 79, of Ray passed from this life on Tuesday morning, August 23, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness.  He was born October 3, 1936 in Ray, Ohio, the son of Wilbert E. and Lucy Marie (Reed) Smith.  On October 26, 1956 he married Joyce Eileen Rose who preceded him in death July 18, 1987.  On June 3, 2000 he married Shirley Irene Smith who survives.

Also surviving is a daughter, Kimberly S. Smith, Chillicothe; a son, Dennis E. (Kimberly) Smith, Gallipolis; step-daughters, Angela (Glenn) Saylor, McArthur and Ryka L. (Tony) Cartee, Mt. Holly, NC; a step-son, Terry L. (Tammy) Smith, Sr., McArthur; grandchildren, Joshua E. Smith, Jeffrey L. Smith, Brennan L. Smith, Terry L. Smith, Jr., Mark A. Morgan, Nathan W. Saylor, Adrienne R. Hatfield, Cody A. Saylor, Kyle A. Cartee, Austin M. Cartee and Courtney L. Cartee; 7 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen M. McClure, Chillicothe.  His parents preceded him in death.

Mr. Smith was a retired employee of Chilpaco with more than 40 years of service.  He was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God in McArthur.  Gerald served for many years on the Liberty Township Fire Department and was a member of Scioto Lodge #6, F&AM and the Chillicothe York Rite Bodies.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 26, 2016 in the Calvary Assembly of God in McArthur with Pastor Carl Radcliff officiating.  Burial will follow in Londonderry Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday.  Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
