Florence E. White

Florence E. White, 87, of Chillicothe, passed from this life Saturday morning, Mar. 21, 2009 in Heartland of Chillicothe following a long battle with Parkinson's disease. She was born Mar. 17, 1922 in Ross County, the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Newland) Penrod. On July 1, 1942 she married John T. "Johnny" White who preceded her in death May 13, 2002 after 59 years of marriage. Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah M. and Donald Hughes, a son and daughter-in-law, John David and Jennifer White, all of Chillicothe, grandchildren, James Paul Garner and wife, Emily and Kim Smith and husband, Alan, great-grandchildren, Corbin and Conner Smith, a sister, Alberta Smart, Chillicothe and a host of nieces and nephews. Her parents and sisters, Dorothy Hart, Mary Martha Oldaker, Elizabeth Baker, Josephine Oldaker, Esther McCollister, Sadie Hines, Louise Buskye and Gladys Pritchard preceded her in death. Florence, along with her husband, Johnny owned and operated Johnny's Restaurant from 1956 until their retirement in 1980. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for more than 60 years and was active in the Climber Missionary Circle, the Berean Sunday School Class and the Church Choir. She enjoyed traveling with her late husband and loved to entertain her friends for dinner or a party. Whenever anyone needed help, she was always there to bring in food for the family. The joy of her life was her family and she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, Mar. 26, 2009 in the Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Steven Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday and at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tabernacle Baptist Church.
