Eugene G. Vinings

Eugene G. Vinings, 94 of Chillicothe passed from this life on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Chillicothe following an extended illness.  He was born July 29, 1923 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of John G. and Mabel (True) Vinings.  On July 30, 1946 he married Bonagene E. Dunlap who preceded him in death on September 9, 1996.

Surviving are daughters, Mary Melinda Vinings, Evansville, IN and Donna M. Thompson, Chillicothe; a son, Lawrence M. (Tina) Vinings, Chillicothe; grandchildren, Sarah (Arthur) Heinrich, Brian M. Thompson, Cody (Jacinta) Vinings and Casey (Sarah) Vinings; great-grandchildren, McKayla Thompson, Hannah Thompson, Cameron Thompson, JayLynn Vinings, Conner Vinings and Westyn Vinings; a sister, Julia Zublena, Youngstown, OH and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Arthur and John Vinings.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran, serving in WW II.  Gene was a Professional Surveyor who enjoyed his work serving southern Ohio for many years until his retirement in 2015.  He was a member of Trinity Lighthouse Church, Scioto Lodge #6, F&AM, Scottish Rite, Aladdin Shrine Temple, a lifetime member of VFW Post 108, American Legion Post 62, AMVETS Post 4, the NRA and the Civil Air Patrol.

Gene was a private pilot and aircraft owner, he enjoyed golf, dancing, hunting and fishing and 4 wheeling.  He lived an active life and was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, November 13, 2017 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Willard McCray officiating.  Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery with military honors by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Monday, with a Masonic Service by Scioto Lodge #6, F&AM at 12:30 pm prior to the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lighthouse Church.
