Harriet Elaine Wiser, 81, born June 22, 1929, in Morristown, NJ, died June 7, 2011, at Westminster Thurber Community, Columbus. Grew up in Berea, OH, and graduated from Baldwin Wallace College. She earned her Master's degree in art history from Johns Hopkins University. Elaine's career and volunteer contributions spanned six decades. She served as art history lecturer at Simpson College and Capital University. Member of King Ave. UMC, former member of Bexley UMC. Member of P.E.O. Former United Methodist Women President, former volunteer with the Liturgical Arts Guild, Beaux Arts and the Toledo and Columbus Museums of Art. Preceded in death by her parents, Harry Jason and Ruth Dainty Williams Smith, and husband, Waller Byrd Wiser. Survived by sister Lenore (Ernest) Murray of Berea, KY, children Suzanne L. Smith (Robert) of Chillicothe, OH, Elizabeth A. Wiser (Patience Whitworth) of Burlington, VT, and David J. Wiser (Michelle), Toledo, OH, and six grandchildren, Melissa Greenwood (Chad Roll), Cain Smith, Kevin Smith, Allison Heiser, Evan Heiser and Christa Wiser. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Friday, June 10, 2011 in the Westminister Thurber Chapel, Columbus. The family will recieve friends from 2:00 pm until the hour of service. A Celebration of Elaine's life will be held 11:00 am, Monday, June 13, at King Ave. United Methodist Church, 299 King Ave. Columbus, OH 43214 with Rev. John Keeny presiding. Family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to King Ave. United Methodist or to Baldwin Wallace College. The family would like to especially thank the staff of Westminster Thurber and Senior Independence Hospice for their care and compassion.
