E. Leona "Lee" Barnes

E. Leona "Lee" Johnson Barnes, 88 of Chillicothe, passed from this life Wednesday evening, Apr. 6, 2011 in Westmoreland Place. She was born Dec. 25, 1922 in Chillicothe, the daughter of Walter J. and Eva (Leatherwood) McCabe. On Apr. 7, 1946 she married Paul L. Johnson who preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 1979. Two sons were born to them who survive, David P. (Beverly Fetters) Johnson of Chattanooga, TN and Alan L. (Faye Clift) Johnson of Chillicothe. Also surviving are grandchildren, Tracy (Sam) Torbett, San Angelo, TX and Bryan (Carrie) Johnson, Lynchburg, VA, 8 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Maxine McCabe, Dallas, OR. On June 30, 1983 she married Donald F. Barnes who preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 1989. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Walter (Doc) McCabe, Lyle McCabe and William McCabe. During her life, Leona was an active volunteer at Adena Regional Medical Center for more than 30 years, the League of Mercy of the Salvation Army and visiting shut-ins. She was a member of the Century Club, a knitting group and attended Tyler Memorial and Trinity United Methodist Churches. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, Apr. 9, 2011 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS and PALMER FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Richard Birk officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Frankfort. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until the hour of service on Saturday.
