Douglas C. Grant, 79, of Chillicothe, passed from this life Dec. 23, 2014 at his residence. He was born Jan. 19, 1935 in Boston, MA, to the late Brenton R. and Kathleen Zwicker Grant.  On June 22, 1968 he married Jan Roehling, who survives.  Together they celebrated 46 years of marriage.

Also surviving are 2 step-children; Billy (Barbara) Warner, and Michele (Rob) Davis, 3 grandchildren; Leeanne (Chris) Jenkins, Michael Cody Eiring, and Blake Eiring, 2 great grandchildren; Lane Jenkins, and GraceLyn Jenkins, brother; Brenton R. (Margie) Grant, Kennett Sq., PA,  sister; Elizabeth Potter, MI, sister-in-law; Vivian Baker, Palmdale, CA, brother-in-law; Harvey Roehling, Oxford, OH, 4 nieces, and 6 nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister; Priscella McNeely.

Doug lived his early years in Webster Groves, MO, later moving to Northern KY.  He graduated from Simon Kenton High School in Independence, KY.  Doug designed the first program for Public Relations majors at the University of Kentucky, and graduated in that program with a BA in 1957.  He was the president of the UK Troopers, a semi-professional entertainment group.  Following graduation he had 6 months active duty through the reserves in 1957, and received an Honorable Discharge in 1962.

He was hired by United States Printing & Lithograph.  In 2 years, was the Director of Advertising & the Trade Mark Bureau, which processed more trade mark registrations than the U.S. Government.  In 1961, he opened a Cincinnati Advertising and Public Relations firm, Adams, Gaffney, & Grant.  Within 8 years it became the largest PR firm in Southwestern, OH.

In 1969 he sold out his partnership and became an Independent Marketing, Advertising & Public Relations Consultant.  Through 40 years he attracted a large number of clients, including international corp. such as Procter & Gamble Co., and National nonprofits, such as the Disabled American Veterans.

Doug had also been involved in a number of trade and community organizations and activities.  He taught an Adult Education Class in Business Writing at the University of Cincinnati.  He was a principal founder of the Cincinnati Direct Marketing Club, President of the Cincinnati Toastmasters, President of the Northeastern Jaycees (Cincinnati), and Public Relations Director of the Ohio Jaycees.

He moved to Pike County on 200 acres in 1974.  He continued his writing career and added to that “home-steading”.  He spear-headed the founding of the Benton Township Fire Department and EMS.  Doug also served as a deacon at Open Door Ministries.  Leaving the country life, he and his wife Jan, moved to the Governor’s Place in 2001, where he served as President for a short time on the Governor’s Place Association Board.  He was also a member of the Noon Rotary Club of Chillicothe.

A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday Jan. 3, 2015, in the Governor’s Place Club House, with Adena Hospice Chaplain, Bruce Hines officiating.  In keeping with Doug’s wishes, his body was donated to the Ohio University Body Donation Department.  The FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family.
