Douglas L. Etling

August 20, 1958 — December 12, 2021

Douglas LaRue Etling, 63, of Chillicothe passed away peacefully at his home at 11:42 am, Sunday, December 12, 2021. He was born August 20, 1958, in Chillicothe, the son of the late Robert L. and Evelyn (Mofford) Etling. On March 6, 1983, he married his best friend, Vicki S. Montgomery, who survives.

Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Ruth Montgomery; son, Dustin (Tiffany) Etling; grandsons, Reed LaRue Etling and Rowdy Leigh Etling;  nephew, Chris (Christie) Etling; nieces, Jenny Etling and Emilee Etling; aunt, Linda Search; special cousins, Thom and Amie Hamman, Matt, Missy and Riley Large, and Courtney (Corey) Ramsey; and many other special friends, including Kit and Kathy Oates, and Craig and Tammie Oates. He was preceded by his brother, Robert L. Etling.

Doug started his love for entertaining by becoming involved in the outdoor drama, Techmseh!.  He also brought smiles to many faces, young and old, with Magic by LaRue, performing magic shows for various events. After a 17-year career at Goodyear Atomic in Piketon, he then became owner of Vickers Studio, where he was able to “put people and places in their best light” with his photographs. Doug loved the rich history that came with owning Vickers Studio, and he continued to tell the story of Chillicothe’s past.

In his free time, Doug enjoyed attending his grandkids’ sprots activities, camping and spending time in the side yard of his house, where he loved listening to Meatloaf and Springsteen.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff at Adena Cancer Center, especially Dr. Jeffrey Rose, Adena Home Care and Adena Hospice for their comfort and support over the last year.

As per Doug’s wishes, there will be no funeral services or calling hours. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doug’s memory to the Ross County Humane Society.

The Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
