Doug Scott

Robert Douglas “Doug” Scott, of Chillicothe, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at age 79. Doug was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Betty (Schwarzbach) Scott. Their beautiful marriage spanned four states, more than 56 years, and was filled with the love of their three children: Becky (Mike) George, Dave Scott, and Steve (Gail) Scott and five grandchildren: Dominic, Mary, Anthony, Alex and Katie.

Doug always put his family first, lived his faith and always shared his love of God with others. He was a friendly, kind and giving soul, who never knew a stranger. Quick to lend a hand, pay a compliment or show gratitude, he was loved by all who knew him.

With a BS in Chemical Engineering, Doug graduated from Virginia Tech and started his career at Goodyear Tire in Akron, Ohio. From there he transitioned to a long tenure with the atomic power plants in Oak Ridge, TN, and then Piketon, OH through its many owners. He enjoyed his work as a Quality Engineer so much, he even returned as a contractor for years after an early retirement and was instrumental in establishing the Scioto Valley Section of American Society for Quality (ASQ).

In service to his community, Doug was a board member and active volunteer with Scioto Valley Habitat for humanity for many years. He was also a loyal member of Scioto Lodge #6 of the Free and Accepted Masons. They sought to honor him in 2026 for his years of service to the Craft.

A devoutly religious man, he was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, where he sang in the choir, held multiple church offices, joined countless committees and ministries and built many lasting friendships he cherished so deeply. He was also actively involved with the National Day of Prayer and the Emmaus community. He enjoyed The Navigators devotional series and read through the Bible annually for over 20 years.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Mary Scott, step-father Russ Gerhard, sister Marilyn Cross, sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Glenn Jenks, and brother-in-law Bob Schwarzbach.

In addition to Betty, their children and grandchildren, Doug is survived by his brother-in-law Dick Cross, sister-in-law Linda (George) Schwarzbach Zook, sister-in-law Karen Schwarzbach, nieces and nephews Beth (Dan) McNamara, Jim (Roberta) Schwarzbach, Christie (Kevin) Schwalbe, Shelley (Tunde Raheem) Cross and Mike (Leah) Jenks.

He touched many lives and has always shown the love of God through words and deeds. He will be deeply missed. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 15, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm with a Masonic service included and funeral service directly following at FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME.
