Doretha, “Dodie” Riffle, 87 of Lexington, KY, formerly of Chillicothe, Ohio, widow of Lester James Riffle, died Thursday, August 30th at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, KY. She was born September 26, 1924 in Chillicothe and was the daughter of the late Harry E. Hand and Viola Greisheimer Hand, and a retired teacher for the Chillicothe School System.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Jane Neault and Ruth Elizabeth Hammond, as well as one brother, Harry Edward Hand.
Mrs. Riffle was a graduate with honors from Ohio University, earning a Special Endorsement certification in Reading, and taught at various schools during her career. She was very active in the community, and upon her retirement, she devoted several years of volunteer service with the Lexington Central Baptist Hospital.
She is survived by five children; Michael Dorn Riffle (Janet) of Lexington; Christy Riffle Liles (Jay) of Tallahassee; Gregory Scott Riffle (Tracy) of Savage, MN; David Edward Riffle (Caroline) of Baton Rouge, and Stephanie Jane Riffle of Lexington. She was a beloved wife and mother, and is also survived by six grandchildren and one great grand-son.
Calling hours will be from 12- 2PM Wednesday September 5th at the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home in Chillicothe. A graveside service will follow in Grandview Cemetery, with the Rev. James Grove officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes made be made to the Lexington Humane Society, 1600 Old Frankfort Pike, Lexington, KY 40504.
