Donald Robert Torbett, Jr.

Donald Robert Torbett Jr., 82, of Chillicothe, passed from this life on Thursday August 1, 2024 in the Adena Regional Medical Center.  He was born on February 28, 1942 in Wheeling, WVA to the late Robert and Virginia Torbett, Sr.  On May 31, 1984 he married Mary Swisher who survives.

Also surviving are daughters, Virginia Torbett, Virginia Beach; Amanda Torbett O’Brien, St. Louis; and a son Donnie Torbett, Red Oak, IA; a granddaughter, Keanan Lynn O’Brien, step-children, Deidre Carroll, Chillicothe; Laurinda Watkins, New York; Robert Skaggs, Chillicothe; and Allen (Tim) Skaggs, Columbus; step-grandchildren, Brooke Shanton, Bryten Carroll, Rachael Carroll, Ehryah Carroll, Seth Skaggs, Kristin Jaeger, Cameron Skaggs, Kyla Watkins, Wren Watkins, L.J. Underwood, Enzo Underwood and 8 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Douglas, Robert Jr., and Richard Torbett, and is step-daughter, Kimberly Underwood.

Don served in the United States Navy for 21 years and retired as Senior Chief Petty Officer.  While enlisted, he served 2 tours in Vietnam, where he was involved in active engagements.  He was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with Three Bronze Stars, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campion Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation.

After retirement from the Navy, he worked for Comstock Engineering, ABB, EPS, and E&I California, as a Project Manager and Electrical Engineer, building alternative power plants.  He was an intrical part of providing electricity across the country.

Upon his marriage to Mary, Don gladly and willfully stepped in as a wonderful step-father to Mary’s children, and later to her grandchildren.  He was a giving person, always willing to lend a helping hand.  He will be greatly missed.

In keeping with Don’s wishes, there will be no services.  The Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home is honored to serve the Torbett Family.
