Deborah M (White) Hughes

May 5, 1955 — November 18, 2024

Chillicothe

Deborah M. Hughes, age 69, of Chillicothe, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024, after an extended illness. Her unwavering faith, love for her family, and strength through adversity will leave an enduring legacy for all who knew her.

Debbie was born on May 5,1955 (“5-5-55”), to John T. White and Florence (Penrod) White, both of whom preceded her in death. A 1973 graduate of Chillicothe High School, Debbie went on to spend two years at Ohio University Chillicothe. Throughout her life, Debbie was deeply involved in her church and community and worked for many years alongside her father at Johnny's Drive-In, where she spent 12 years serving the customers she loved. She was a lifelong member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she loved to sing in the choir.

On July 8, 2002, Debbie married her loving husband, Donald L. Hughes, who survives. Together, they shared a bond built on love, faith, and devotion. Debbie’s greatest pride and joy was her son, James Garner (wife Emily) of Chillicothe and her grandson, Luke. She was also blessed to be part of a larger family, with Don’s children Kristine Cavicchiolo (husband Joseph) of Michigan and Kendrick Hughes (wife Skylar) of Kansas, along with grandchildren Caitlyn, Connor, and Cameron Cavicchiolo.

She is also survived by a brother, John D. White and his daughter, Kimberly (husband Alan) Smith and family. Her sister-in-law, Jennifer White preceded her in death.

Debbie's family was her heart. She deeply cherished the relationships she built with all of them, including James' birth father, Barry Garner of Circleville, who remained an important part of her son's life.

Her love for her family, friends, and community remained constant throughout her life, and she will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the warmth she brought to those around her. She loved to entertain, plan parties and go on vacation, especially to the beach. She and Don took many trips in their motorhome to Florida, Pigeon Forge, Myrtle Beach, and Maine, and enjoyed camping locally with friends.

Debbie’s funeral service will be held at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 221 E. Main St, on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 1pm with Pastor Chris Brown, officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 11am to 1pm prior to the service. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. The family would like to thank all who supported them through this difficult time, especially those who offered prayers and kindness in her final days.  An online memorial is available at www.fawcett-palmer.com.
