David L. "Joe" Vandergriff

October 16, 1947 — December 30, 2023

David L. “Joe” Vandergriff, 76, of Chillicothe passed from this life on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at his residence following an extended illness.  He was born October 16, 1947 in Knoxville, TN., the son of George E. and Vada (Cameron) Vandergriff.  On August 10, 1968 he married Ola Gayle Draise who preceded him in death October 10, 2021.

Surviving are his sons, David L. (Jean) Vandergriff, II, Round Lake Beach, IL and Johnathan M. Vandergriff, Chillicothe; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marlene (David) Noel and a brother, George E. “Butch” (Catherine) Vandergriff II, both of Cincinnati, OH area; and close family friends, David R. and Lisa Castle.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam.  Following his military service, he was a Trooper for the Ohio Highway Patrol for several years.  He later worked as a regional manager for Baxter Health Care and for Wells Fargo Bank.  He was a member of Bainbridge Lodge # 196, F&AM, the Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus and for several years a member of the Jaycee Independent Golf League.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 13, 2024 in Bainbridge Cemetery with Pastor Chris Brown officiating and military honors by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard.  Calling hours will not be observed.  Memorial contributions are requested to the Coalition to Salute American Heroes (www.saluteheroes.org) or to Adena Hospice.
