Charles D. Mcgarvey

Charles D. McGarvey, 90, of Chillicothe, passed from this life early Friday morning, Apr. 30, 2010 in Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. He was born Jan. 13, 1920 in Wellston, OH, the son of Samuel and Nellie (Anderson) McGarvey. On Dec. 17, 1943 he married Geneva A. Copenhaver who survives. Also surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Gerald Brown, Chillicothe, his grandchildren, Bryan Brown and his partner, Todd Sapp, Kimberly and husband, Bill hart and Tanya and husband, Jym Moore, his great grandchildren, Jordan Smith, Philip Smith, Katie Moore, Courtney and husband, Bryan Justice and Billy Hartzell, his great-great grandchild, Gabriel Justice, many nieces and nephews and his faithful and loving canine companion, Peggy Sue. He was the last surviving member of a family of seven and was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jerry Lynn McGarvey,brothers, John, James, Dale, Ira Gene and Jack McGarvey and a sister, Nellie Hughes. Mr. McGarvey had been one of the last of the "old time" drivers for the Chillicothe Bus System and had an accident free driving record. He also served 25 years with the City of Chillicothe Water Department, retiring in 1985. He was an avid gardener and took great pride in his lawn. He never knew a stranger and will be missed by his family and many friends. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, May 3, 2010 in Greenlawn Cemetery with Rev. David Dean and Rev. Jack Norman officiating. Calling hours will not be observed. The FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME is serving the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brookside Church Building Fund.
