Catherine Frey, 96, of Chillicothe, passed from this life early Monday afternoon, Mar. 21, 2011 in Adena Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born July 22, 1914 in Ross County, the daughter of Frank and Stella (Cook) Davis. On Nov. 3, 1937 she married Frank Frey who preceded her in death Oct. 4, 1975. Surviving is her daughter, Mary Margaret Myers and her son and daughter-in-law, Terry L. and Dolores Frey, all of Chillicothe, her grandchildren, Terry L. Frey, Jr. and his companion, Shelly Vest, and William F. "Willie" Myers, her great grandchild, Amanda Frey, her great-great grandchildren, Coral, Cruz and Bella, a host of nieces and nephews and her church family. Her parents, a grandson, Scott Alan Frey, sisters, Dorothy, Margaret, Bessie, Lula and Lucille, brothers, Fred, Clarence, Carl and many friends preceded her in death. Catherine had been a waitress for the McCarty Hotel Dining Room. Along with her husband, she owned and operated a dairy farm for many years. She was a 70 year member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and was the church's oldest living member. She was a Sunday school teacher and served as Superintendent of the Sunday school for most of her adult life. Catherine enjoyed singing in the choir and for many years was the head of the church kitchen. She enjoyed cooking and will be remembered for her pies. Catherine was active in her community, as a member of Elmdale Grange and serving for many years as the Ross County Fair flower chairwoman. She was the Springfield Township chairwoman for the Ross County Board of Elections for 30 years, active in the Springfield Township Fire and Rescue Woman's Auxiliary and was an active volunteer for the Ross County Chapter of the American Red Cross, preparing many meals over the years. She was an avid gardener and flower grower, enjoyed traveling and was a known as a world traveler. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, Mar. 25, 2011 in the Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Steven Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Kingston. The family will receive friends at the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday where a service by Elmdale Grange will be held at 7:30 pm. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Tabernacle Baptist Church or Mt. Carmel UM Church.
