Carl D. Elder

Carl D. “Dave” Elder, 75, of Chillicothe, passed from this life Wednesday morning, July 11, 2012 at his home after an extended illness.  He was born Aug. 30, 1936 in Clarksburg, WV, the son of the late Harley and Laura (Simmons) Elder.  On Sept. 10, 1959 he married his loving wife of 52 years, Janet L. (Johnson) Elder who survives.

Also surviving are daughters, Helen (Jack) Woods and Tammy Elder, both of Chillicothe; granddaughters, Crystal (Joshua) Tyler and Autumn Woods; great-grandchildren, Adyson and Ashlyn Tyler; a sister, Alma Jean Blevins; brothers, Harley and Charles Elder, all of Chillicothe and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Delphia and brothers, William and Leroy.

Carl was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He was retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation and had served as the Superintendent of District 9.  He enjoyed deer hunting, mushroom hunting, gardening and western movies.  He was very dedicated to his wife and family and loved to spend time with them, and to visit his home in West Virginia. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

At his request, private funeral services and burial in Londonderry Cemetery will be held at the discretion of the family.  Calling hours will not be observed.  The FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME is serving the family.
