Vivian Wright Obituary

Vivian Lucille (Cravens) Wright, affectionately known as “Sue” and “Susie” to many family and friends, was born February 26, 1932 in Chillicothe to George and Viola (Seymour) Cravens.  The entry of herstep-father, Jacob Shewalter into the family (in which she was the oldest of five sisters and one brother)brought welcome stability and love to her life.  She met Richard “Dick” Wright in Sunday school when she was ten years old and married him on March 25, 1951, a marriage that lasted more than sixty-sevenyears.

Together they raised six children (five girls and one boy):  Beth, Jane, Robin, Mariruth, Rick and Becky.  In 1971 she was ordained and commissioned with her husband as a Salvation Army officer with the rank of Lieutenant, and partnered with him to serve corps (churches and community centers) in Lima, Tiffin and Cincinnati, Ohio.  She also ministered beside her husband in United Methodist churches over the years, where she especially enjoyed working with women’s groups.  Her family fondly remembers and imitates her fudge and potato salad and cherishes memories of her delight in family, family gatherings and traveling to places such as Branson, Gatlinburg, Myrtle Beach, New York City, etc.  She loved children, especially babies; country music, especially Conway Twitty; the Cincinnati Reds, especially Johnny Bench and Devin Mesoraco and sweet tea.

Sue stepped onto heaven’s shores on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, surrounded by her family and joining her loved ones who preceded her in death, her parents; sister Shirley and brothers-in-law, Walter Wright and Chet Puckett; sister, Norma Jean and brother-in-law, Charlie Rinehart; and Brother, Gail and sister-in-law, Ikie Shewalter.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Leroy Smith; sister, Saundra Shewalter; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Al Womack; daughter, Jane Wright-Combs; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Bob Hostetler; daughter and son-in-law, Mariruth and Ron Montemurro; son, Rick Wright; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Scott Harshman; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; a great-great-grandson and beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members.
