Henry Barlow Obituary

Henry Sleet Barlow entered the gates of Heaven on Friday, September 14, 2018. Henry was born in Georgetown, Kentucky on October 24, 1929 the son of Alma Riddle McAlister Barlow and John Sleet McAlister.  He was later adopted by his father Osso Barlow and the family moved to Chillicothe.

It was in Chillicothe that Henry met the love of his life, Patricia Cartwright, while dancing at the Chicken Inn.  They married on August 30, 1955 and spent 63 wonderful years together.  He was the best dad.  In addition to Patricia, he leaves behind their son, H. Robert (Bob) Barlow; daughter, Toni Lee (Dave) Eddy; grandchildren Beth Ann (Josh) Savko, M.D., Kory Barlow, and David Eddy.  He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Nancy (Sis) Riggin.

Henry loved the Lord and was a longtime member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, inspired by Pastor Charles Lusher to join the church in the early years of his marriage.

He was very proud to say that he served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was quick to share a story or memory of his time in the military.  He continued to wear his “Korean War Veteran” ball cap adorned with pins and buttons commemorating his service and our military throughout his life.

Henry was a 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus and in his younger years was a member of American Legion Post 62 and Kiwanis in Chillicothe, and the Lions Club of Osgood, Indiana.  He also volunteered with the American Cancer Society and United Way.

He loved to build and fly model airplanes.  Henry first flew a model plane when he was fourteen years old and was still flying model planes at the age of 88.  He was a member of the local RORKS club.  He also loved his animals, especially Sam (the family dog) and Frank (Henry’s cat).  He would have had a hundred more if he could.

Henry was employed with U.S. Shoe Corp. for 26 years before obtaining his real estate license and operating his own agency for a number of years.  He and Patricia then purchased Sparkle Cleaners, which they have owned and operated since 1976 with the help of Bob.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 pm Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Brown officiating.
