Robert Edward Starr, II, 76 of Stewart, OH, formerly of Chillicothe passed from this life on Saturday evening, Dec. 10, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his wife and family.  He was born Sept. 13, 1940 in Chillicothe, the son of Robert E. Starr, Sr. and Dorothy A. (Mercer) Starr.  On Dec. 31, 1960 he married his childhood sweetheart, Helen E. Bigler.

Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Helen; a daughter, Barbara Ann (Grant) Carper, Kingston; sons, Robert E. (Octavia) Starr, III, Byron, GA and Christopher (Pamela) Starr, Stewart, OH; son-in-law, Jesse Coleman; Stewart, OH;  grandchildren, Al (Erin) Phillips and their 3 children, Nicole (Jonathan) Crook and their 2 children, Christopher (Tiffany) Starr and their 5 children, Rebecca Starr and her 2 children, Angel Starr, Glen (Lori) Wilkes and their 8 children, Elizabeth Wilkes and her child, Logan Starr, Alexander Starr and Lydia Starr; sisters, Sue Starr and Judy Jones, both of Chillicothe; brothers, Phil (Brenda) Starr, Groveport, OH and John Starr, Chillicothe.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Michelle Starr Coleman.

Mr. Starr was a 1958 graduate of Catholic Central High School and attended the University of Dayton.

He pursued a career as a paper research chemist, starting as a technician for Mead Central Research.  He was hired by Freeport Kaolin Co., Gordon, GA and as a result of his knowledge of paper coatings, asked to join the Thiele Kaolin Co. He established the paper coating/technical service laboratory for Thiele Kaolin and traveled worldwide and presented several technical papers, resulting in the advancement of paper coating technology.

He loved the country life and he and his wife retired to their farm to enjoy their last days.  He enjoyed being around his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and all of his pets, which included any stray animals or wild animals who happened by the farm for food.  He was dedicated to his faith, always honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary in prayers.

A Requiem Mass will be said at 11:00 am on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME.  Burial will follow in St. Margaret’s Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, with a Rosary Service at 7:00 pm.
