Norma Jean (Payne) Alcorn, 85, of Chillicothe, Ohio passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family November 18, 2016.

Jean was born August 17, 1931 in Anderson, Indiana. She moved with her family to a farm outside Austin, IN at the age of four. She is in heaven with her parents, Fairda and Clayetta Norwood Payne, her sisters, Eula Fisher, Marie Bradley, Betty Osbourne Jewell, and her brother Orville Payne.

Jean graduated from Austin High School in 1949, Hanover College ( BA in Math, Chemistry & Physics) in 1953 and Ohio University (MA in Economics) in 1978.  She married James Donald Alcorn in October, 1953. They soon moved to Circleville, OH. For 31 years Jean taught at Zane Trace and Unioto Schools.  After retirement, she worked for H&R Block, and along with Donald, had an upholstery business, Just Sew Sew. Through the years she was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church, and Salem, Tyler and Trinity United Methodist Churches. Jean was also an active member of the Soroptimist  International.

She is survived by her husband Donald Alcorn, and her three children, Loretta (Tom) Kleinline, Greg (Jane Ann) Alcorn, and Keith (Ana Rosa ) Alcorn, her sister Madelyn Kramer, and her many nieces and nephews. She was very proud of her six grandchildren, Cora, Lenora, Jenny, Laura, Daniel, and Andrea. Jean’s loss will be felt deeply by many friends, family and former students. She was an unforgettable person and will be missed by all who loved her.

Funeral services will be held 7PM, Monday November 21st in the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home with Pastor Kurt King officiating. The family will receive friends from 5PM until the hour of service. Indiana calling hours will be 12:30 to 2:30 PM, Tuesday at the Buchanan Funeral Home, Austin, IN with a brief service at 2:30 PM.  Burial will follow in Spurgeon Cemetery.  The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers of Home Helpers and Adena Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Adena Hospice in memory of Jean.  The Fawcett Oliver Glass & Palmer Funeral Home is honored to be serving The Alcorn family.
