Marguerite "Mickey" (Dunaway) Oiler

January 4, 1921 ~ July 19, 2017 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Marguerite “ Mickey” (Dunaway) Oiler, 96, of Chillicothe & Circleville, Ohio passed away July 19, 2017 at Pickaway Manor Assisted Living in Circleville, Ohio.  She was born January 4, 1921 at home on the family farm, in the Marmon Valley of Jefferson Township, Logan County, OH 2 miles from the village of Zanesfield.  She was the 7th of 8 children.  Her parents (whom predeceased her) were George Edward Dunaway (1875-1926) and Anna Lois (VanHyning) Dunaway (1880-1948).  On August 2, 1950, in Richmond, Indiana, she married William “Bill” Oiler (1926-1980) whom she met at Washington C.H., Ohio while working there at NCR and he at Sohio (Bill was from McArthur, Ohio).  He predeceased her on December 4, 1980.  They are now together forever.  Predeceased also by her siblings: Martha Cooksey, Ed Dunaway, Mary Dunaway, Infant Girl Dunaway, Charles Dunaway, Eleanor Potts, Dwight Dunaway and by many other family & friends.  She is survived by her son from a previous marriage, Robert Leroy Andrews (Judy Baldwin) and Grandson Robert William “Bo” Andrews.  She is also survived by her son Roger William Oiler and by many other family & friends.  She was proud of her family and the values instilled in her.  She worked from a young age, but had fun growing up too.  Family, Church (Friends Church), School – graduating from Zanesfield High School in 1939 – now a part of Benjamin Logan Schools, and exploring in the area were the main pastimes.  The family was “poor” in money, but rich in love.  She worked at Harding’s plant in East Liberty.  Shortly after the birth of her first child (in the earliest days of World War II), she worked at varied jobs in various defense plants.  Some examples:  working on trigger housings, manufacturing bomb bay doors for aircraft in a former casket company, winding electric motors, packing parachutes, and more.  Bill served a stint in the Marines during the Korean War (he also served in World War II), and they lived for a while in Wilmington, North Carolina and in Syracuse, New York.  They then came back to Chillicothe, and he worked at Omar Bakery.  Later he and a partner operated Oiler’s Sohio at Main & Hickory, while Mickey worked at Mead Paper Co. in the Sorting Room.  She also “did the books” for the station.  She quit Mead when expecting her 2nd child in 1958.  Mickey & Bill lived several places in Chillicothe.  They then moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1962 for Bill’s health but returned shortly, settling near Circleville, OH where Bill became employed with Western-Southern Insurance.  In 1963, they rented a grocery store w/gas pumps on Kingston Pike, renaming it Bill’s Grocery.  They lived in the house attached to the store.  Soon after taking on the store, Bill left Western-Southern to go to work at DuPont.  Together, Mickey and Bill (with Roger joining in when old enough) continued to operate the store.  They later built a house on the lot next door and eventually moved in.  Bill passed in 1980, but Mickey and Roger kept the store until March of 1983.  Mickey enjoyed going to Jazzercise and then to a gym for approx. the final 10 years on Kingston Pike.  In 1993, Mickey and Roger moved back to Chillicothe, settling finally in 1995 in the current residence on the hill on W. 5th St.  Her adult church affiliations were at Pontius and Morris-Salem Churches near Circleville, Salem Church in Meade and First Church of God and First United Methodist in Chillicothe.  Bobby, Judy, Bo, and Roger thank all of you and send our Love to you all that have been a part of our (and Mickey’s) lives.  Calling hours will be Friday July 21, 2017 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at WELLMAN FUNERAL HOME, 1455 N. Court St., CIRCLEVILLE.  Funeral-11:00 A.M. Saturday July 22, 2017 (with visitation starting 1 hour before the service) at FAWCETT- OLIVER- GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME 77 E. 5th St. in CHILLICOTHE.  Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Chillicothe.  Online condolences may be made to www.wellmanfuneralhomes.com.
